At Key Medical Resources you may have noticed a new friend attending classes. Our new doggie mannequin, Ginger, makes appearances from time to time and attends every hands-only class. Ginger provides an education to students that is somewhat new to the public. Doggie CPR is a program that is currently being developed at KMR by Katie Wellins. Katie is a dog owner herself says, “I started the program to empower people in the event of a pet emergency, I love my pup so darn much! ”
Doggie CPR is not so different from human CPR. You’ll need to determine responsiveness, reach out to an emergency vet, perform compressions and mouth to snout ventilations. We always emphasize not to call 911 in the event of a pet emergency but have your local emergency vet accessible by keeping it saved in your phone or having it posted on the fridge.
It is the companies goal to develop a Pet CPR/First Aid class in 2020. Offering all the skills someone would need to asses and assist their furry friends in the event of an emergency. If Ginger’s time in the field has taught us anything, it’s that people love their pets, and are willing to do what it takes to help them.
